Shao-Fong Wang's "Wall of Hope": A Mural-Inspired Business Office

Award-Winning Design Marries Aesthetics and Functionality in Commercial Space

The "Wall of Hope" is a business office that sells construction materials. The design features warm wood and painted steel, creating a sense of value for the products. The client's initial request was for a material room, but after several discussions and design plans, Wang proposed a mural-style design to showcase the products on an open wall.

The design's color is predominantly black, providing a stark contrast to the warm wood. Materials used include black paint, plywood, walnut, black painted glass, LVT plastic flooring, Lotos, and black flannel. The indoor area measures 86 m2 with a height of 2.6 m, housing three business conference areas.

The design's unique features are its visual effects, concentrated on the black and warm wood grain. A large piece of wood is positioned above the center of the conference room, with a video wall below it facing the conference room. On the other side, there is a merchandising display wall and sample storage cabinet. Different lighting creates a unique atmosphere for each client.

The project started in September 2016 and was completed in Taipei, Taiwan, in February 2017. The design process involved considering the flexible layout and smooth traffic flows, improving the storage and exhibition space such that the storage and display functions are integrated. The open exhibit design satisfies both practical and aesthetic needs.

In a constrained space, a unique area was created to meet clients’ expectations. The design enhances the uniqueness and originality of the design, presenting each unique product against a clean background. The "Wall of Hope" is a testament to Wang's ability to overcome creative and technical challenges, resulting in a design that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

The "Wall of Hope" was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
